Telemark, in southern Norway, is famous for its Telemark Canal and world-class skiing, especially at Gaustatoppen mountain, which offers 20 slopes and a vertical drop of 800 meters (2,625 feet). Winters bring cold temperatures (averaging -5°C to -10°C / 23°F to 14°F) and excellent cross-country trails through forests near Rjukan, while summers are mild (15-20°C / 59-68°F), perfect for a day cruise along the 108-kilometer canal with its 18 locks between Skien and Dalen.
