Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California is famous for its otherworldly rock formations and the iconic Joshua trees that dot the landscape. The climate is extreme, with summer highs over 100°F (38°C) pushing most visitors to cooler spring and fall months, when temperatures hover around 70-85°F (21-29°C)-perfect for hiking Hidden Valley or climbing the monzogranite boulders at Echo Rock. In winter, night temperatures can drop to 30°F (-1°C), but clear skies make it the best time for stargazing at Keys View, while the park's two distinct deserts-the Mojave's higher elevation for pine forests and the Colorado's lower, cactus-filled terrain-offer very different hiking experiences within an hour's drive.
